Despite something of a nightmare season for Barcelona’s Brazilian playmaker, Philippe Coutinho still managed to accumulate the third-highest fantasy football points total for a LaLiga midfielder in 2018/19.

Coutinho was expensive, however, costing 10.5 million for any fantasy LaLiga managers who wanted him in their teams.

He made 22 starts in the Spanish league and another 12 substitute appearances, meaning he played in 34 league games altogether for Barca during the campaign.

Coutinho contributed five goals and only two assists as he underwhelmed the Camp Nou crowd on a regular basis. Continue reading

La Liga’s top fantasy football picks for this weekend

This weekend sees another full lineup of La Liga action including the mighty El Clasico which takes place at the Bernabeu in Madrid on Saturday evening.

Real Madrid will be keen to put a halt to Barcelona’s march towards another La Liga title. A win for the home side would put them back within six points of Ernesto Valverde’s league leaders with 12 games remaining. Clearly, there’s still a lot to play for going into this gameweek.

Elsewhere, second-placed Atletico Madrid travel to play Real Sociedad while Sevilla are away to bottom-of-the-table Huesca.

Brazilian forward Charles had given the visitors the lead from the penalty spot, before two goals from Cristhian Stuani late in the first half briefly turned the game in the hosts’ favour. Anaitz Arbilla levelled up deep into injury time, before a second half goal from Sergi Enrich allowed the guests to leapfrog Girona in the table, shooting up to 12th. Elsewhere, Alaves recorded a hugely impressive 1-0 home win over Real Madrid, while Barcelona were held at Valencia. That allowed Wissam Ben Yedder and Sarabia  make it into this week’s list straight away, while there were also some big hits from Alaves as they earned an equally impressive 5-1 win at the home of Rayo Vallecano.
