Serie A Injury and Suspension Report – Round 20

Juventus: Miralem Pjanic is suspended, while Douglas Costa (calf) and Rodrigo Bentancur (thigh) are banged up after the Supercoppa, but they could recover by Monday. Mario Mandzukic will be on the mend for a couple more weeks and Medhi Benatia remains iffy with a sore groin.

Napoli: Lorenzo Insigne, Allan and Kalidou Koulibaly are disqualified. Dries Mertens is trying to shake off an ankle sprain and his presence is not 100 percent certain. Marek Hamsik is not expected to come back from his thigh strain. Raul Albiol is fatigued, but available. 

Inter:  Balde Keita pulled the biceps femoris muscle in his thigh and will be re-evaluated next week. He could be out for about 20 days.

Lazio: Adam Marusic was slapped with a two-game ban and also hurt his hip. Joaquin Correa recently had the flu, while Wallace has a sore knee, but they should both be ready to go.

Milan: Davide Calabria, Alessio Romagnoli and Franck Kessiè are suspended. Suso is dealing with a nagging groin inflammation that needs to be managed. Ivan Strinic was called up for the first time this season in Coppa Italia. Mattia Caldara (Achilles) and Lucas Biglia (calf) could return in about three weeks.

Roma: Juan Jesus suffered a meniscus injury and he is evaluating his options to solve it. Steven Nzonzi recently dislocated his fourth toe and might have trouble playing this Saturday, but he is in the squad list. Diego Perotti pulled his calf again and could be on the shelf for a couple of weeks. Daniele De Rossi will not return this week from his knee cartilage issues. Alessandro Florenzi is out with the flu, while Kostas Manolas should be fine after a thigh problem.

Sampdoria: Bartosz Bereszynski recovered from his thigh strain during the break, while Edgar Barreto still has some lingering issues and Karol Linetty picked up an ankle sprain that will force him to miss the Fiorentina game.

Atalanta: Marten De Roon has recovered from a blow to the lower leg that sidelined him for a while. Robin Gosens has a small thigh muscular issue, but he should at least be available. Remo Freuler has picked up a contracture and he is unlikely to play. 

Torino: Armando Izzo and Soualiho Meitè are suspended. Simone Zaza is dealing with an ankle sprain and Sasa Lukic with a thigh injury: they have been called up, while Daniele Baselli is out due to a hip pointer. Emiliano Moretti is out with an adductor strain.

Fiorentina: reserve Kevin Diks is questionable with a knee ailment.

Sassuolo: Marlon suffered a significant muscular problem and will be on the stands for a while. Mehdi Bourabia and Federico Di Francesco are dinged up. Jeremie Boga returned in Coppa Italia after missing more than a month following a tibia surgery.

Parma: Luca Rigoni sprained his ankle and his availability is in question. Matteo Scozzarella (calf) and Roberto Inglese (thigh) missed some time before the break but they are okay now. Federico Dimarco (abdomen) and Federico Sierralta (thigh) have been called up after missing months with tough injuries. 

Cagliari: Leonardo Pavoletti banged knees in Coppa Italia, but he should be ready to play. Luca Ceppitelli is disqualified. Charalampos Lykogiannis recovered from his calf strain, while Ragnar Klavan (gluteus) and  Alberto Cerri (thigh) have been ruled out due to muscle fatigue, Marco Sau because of a light knee sprain. Darijo Srna is under the weather, but he is expected to feature. 

Genoa: Krzysztof Piatek is suspended. Sandro (knee) and Oscar Hiljemark (hip) are doubtful for Monday’s game, while Goran Pandev should be able to play despite some muscle fatigue. Koray Gunter and Luca Mazzitelli are healthy.

Udinese: Rolando Mandragora and Ignacio Pussetto are banned for this one. Antonin Barak is in Czech Republic to try to finally solve his chronic back problems. Lukas Teodorczyk  returned in Udine for the final step of his rehab protocol following sports hernia surgery, so he could come back fairly soon. Samir and Emmanuel Badu are out long-term. Kevin Lasagna collided with a teammate in practice and he is questionable.

SPAL: Manuel Lazzarri skipped one with an ankle sprain, but he got past it during the break. Mattia Valoti and Federico Viviani have the flu.

Empoli: Rade Krunic and Ismael Bennacer are suspended. Antonino La Gumina suffered a thigh strain in the last game and has been unable to recover. Manuel Pasqual, Domenico Maietta, Leonardo Capezzi, Luca Antonelli and Levan Mchedlidze are all dealing with similar thigh problems and they are questionable: the first two have the best chances to feature.

Bologna: Federico Santander, Nehuen Paz (thigh) and Adam Nagy (knee) were out for the Coppa Italia match, but they are expected to be at the coach’s disposal this week. Godfred Donsah hurt his ankle, but he should be fine. Blerin Dzemaili is iffy with a calf problem.

Frosinone: Marco Capuano and Camillo Ciano are disqualified. Francesco Zampano picked up a thigh strain that will force him to miss the upcoming fixture and perhaps more to come. Lorenzo Ariaudo is out with an ankle injury, Daniel Ciofani with a thigh one. Bartosz Salamon is banged up but could be available. 

Chievo: Fabrizio Cacciatore, Federico Barba, Joel Obi and Manuel Pucciarelli are trying to recover from the injuries that sidelined them in December.
