Andrea Barzagli is out with a quad strain.

Sami Khedira (ankle) and Emre Can remain out for this week.

Napoli: Raul Albiol suffered a mild ankle sprain against Red Star Belgrade and he is at risk for the Monday game. Serie A Fantasy Predictions – Round 3

milanroma

The next round presents a couple of interesting matches.

Milan-Roma: the Rossoneri looked decent in their debut in Naples, but lasted only about an hour, up until their second goal, then showed the defensive deficiencies that held them back last season. While they work on how to feed Gonzalo Higuain properly, the usual fantasy studs shined as Giacomo Bonaventura scored and Suso provided an assist. The return of Hakan Calhanoglu will give them a boost. The Wolf is even more a work in progress after the departure of Kevin Strootman and brand-new hierarchies in the midfield and in the attack. Serie A Fantasy Predictions – Round 2

juventuslazio

After some flashes in the first match day, the second one is more intriguing on paper.

Juventus-Lazio: the Old Lady had to toil to defeat Chievo, but the attack confirmed to be deep and hard to contain, even though few players had an off game, while the defence needs some fine-tuning. Cristiano Ronaldo was electric, but teammates had troubles finding him and Paulo Dybala and Douglas Costa suffered from the fact that the spaces were all clogged up. Among the forwards, Federico Bernardeschi certainly looked the most in-form. Perhaps things will be a little more open against better competition. The Portuguese was devastating on the wing, which is good news for Mario Mandzukic, his ideal partner in crime, and for Alex Sandro as well because he had much more room to operate. Continue reading

Serie A Team of the Week – Round 37

albiol

The last round was a little lacking in terms of scoring: here is who made it to the team of the week.

Alessio Cragno: six teams kept a clean sheet in the last round, but there were not any superhuman performance by a goalie, so Cragno gets the spot because he did it against the toughest opponent. He racked up seven points as usual.

Raul Albiol: he was the top earner this week with nine points, thanks to the potent header that sealed the deal against Sampdoria and the clean sheet.  Continue reading

Serie A Fantasy Recap – Round 37

milinkovic4

Welcome to the second edition of the Serie A recap.

Standings implications. Juventus are now mathematically champions, but there was no doubt about that following the previous weekend’s results. Roma had already locked up a Champions League berth before even playing thanks to Inter’s loss. The undermanned Lazio salvaged a point in Crotone and have now a three-point margin heading into next week’s showdown with the Nerazzurri. Milan qualified to Europa League, Atalanta almost certainly because they hold a three point and seven-score advantage in the goal difference over Fiorentina. Sampdoria are out of the running. Next week’s games will determine who will have to go through the exhausting playoffs starting in July. Continue reading

Serie A Fantasy Game Predictions – Round 36

lazioatalanta

The top teams will try to avoid some trap games in the next round.

Juventus-Bologna: the Bianconeri responded in a big way after the loss in the Napoli clash, even though they could have probably handled the Inter game better. Anyway, the dramatic win in the Derby d’Italia gave them a big lift in the title race. They will be without Miralem Pjanic and likely Mario Mandzukic in this one. Gonzalo Higuain resumed scoring and Paulo Dybala had a positive cameo, while Douglas Costa continues to be their star. Continue reading
