Latest Napoli tests all negative

Napoli failed to show up at the Allianz Stadium on Sunday night for their clash with champions Juventus as a result of positive COVID-19 tests.

Gino Gattuso’s side were prevented from travelling up north by local authorities after stars Piotr Zielinski and Eljif Elmas both tested positive for coronavirus over the weekend.

A member of Napoli’s staff had also tested positive, as well as two staff members at Juventus.

These are not the first Italian sides to be disrupted by the pandemic this season – Genoa were hammered 6-0 at Napoli at the end of September after missing several members of their team following positive tests.

Il Grifone then saw their game postponed this past weekend as a result.

However, earlier on Sunday, Serie A officials had stated the Juventus-Napoli game would go ahead as planned on Sunday night. This potentially means Napoli forfeited the match and could hand their rivals a 3-0 victory as a result. No update has so far been made as of Tuesday afternoon.

Inter drop points as clean sheet eludes Conte’s side again

Internazionale were pegged back to a 1-1 draw at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday as both sides were reduced to 10 men.

In a first half of few chances, Lautaro Martinez gave Antonio Conte’s side the lead on half hour with his low finish squeezing beneath Thomas Strakosha.

These two sides had the best defensive records in Serie A last term and didn’t give each other much room in front of goal in the first half. However, Romelu Lukaku spurned a decent chance shortly after half-time as he fired wide of the post from 18 yards after strike partner Martinez had played him in.

Inter were made to pay as Sergej Milinkovic-Savic beat Ivan Perisic at the back post to head home a cross from deep to make it 1-1. Conte’s side have now shipped six goals in their opening three games this season, though this is the first time they have dropped points.

Premier League Best 11 Players of the Weekend: Matchday 3

Leicester City caused the biggest upset in gameweek 2 as Jamie Vardy scored a hat-trick in a 5-2 win away to Manchester City. Later that night, West Ham United thrashed Wolverhampton Wanderers 4-0.

Here’s a look at the players who made a real difference in the fantasy football last weekend:

Goalkeeper: Emi Martinez (Aston Villa) – 7pts
The Argentinian goalkeeper has started his Aston Villa career with back-to-back clean sheets as part of the side that won 3-0 at Fulham on Monday. He’ll do well to make it three in a row this weekend when Dean Smith’s side face Liverpool.

Defender: Tyrone Mings (Aston Villa) – 11pts
Tyrone Mings scored the third as Aston Villa romped to victory at Craven Cottage. A clean sheet too for the centre-back, you can’t get much better than that combo.

Defender: Andy Robertson (Liverpool) – 9pts
Liverpool’s left-back gave his side the lead against Arsenal on Monday night after it was his mistake that gifted Mikel Arteta’s side the lead. Andy Robertson now has a goal, assist and clean sheet in his first three outings this season.

Defender: Arthur Masuaku (West Ham United) – 9pts
Anyone who was brave enough to include a West Ham defender in their team last weekend greatly profited with a surprise clean sheet versus Wolverhampton Wanderers. Arthur Masuaku outscored his fellow defenders by registering an assist too.

Midfielder: Conor Hourihane (Aston Villa) – 12pts
Aston Villa were two up inside 15 minutes at Fulham on Monday thanks to Conor Hourihane adding to Jack Grealish’s strike. The central midfielder also delivered the free kick that Tyrone Mings poked home just after half-time.

Midfielder: Riyad Mahrez (Manchester City) – 10pts
Riyad Mahrez opened the scoring for Manchester City against his former club before Leicester City produced a stunning turnaround in a 5-2 victory at the Etihad Stadium.

Midfielder: Jack Grealish (Aston Villa) – 9pts
Aston Villa’s first goalscorer in their 3-0 win at Fulham saw Jack Grealish make the fantasy Premier League team of the weekend.

Striker: Jamie Vardy (Leicester City) – 13pts
The fourth hat-trick of the 2020-21 Premier League season saw Leicester City thrash Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City on Sunday. This was Jamie Vardy’s versus the Citizens since the Spaniard has been in charge.

Striker: Jarrod Bowen (West Ham United) – 11pts
Scorer of the opening two goals from West Ham United in their surprise 4-0 thrashing of Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday earned Jarrod Bowen a place in the team of the week.

Striker: Callum Robinson (West Bromwich Albion) – 10pts
Callum Robinson only scored one goal in 17 Premier League appearances for Sheffield United last season but scored two in West Brom’s 3-3 draw with Chelsea this weekend. Unfortunately for the striker, he was taken off midway through the second half before he could grab a hat-trick.

EPL Predictions Gameweek 4

Leicester City, Liverpool and Everton head into gameweek four of the 2020-21 Premier League season as the last remaining teams with a 100% winning start.

The Toffees host Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday, whilst Leicester kickoff Sunday’s action at lunchtime by welcoming West Ham United to the King Power Stadium. Liverpool conclude the weekend, away to Aston Villa.

Here’s a look ahead to the weekend’s games:

Chelsea vs Crystal Palace
The Premier League weekend starts with a London derby as Chelsea look to improve on their 3-3 draw at West Bromwich Albion, whilst Crystal Palace are looking to bounce back from their first defeat of the season. A home win isn’t a foregone conclusion by any means but you’d have to favour the hosts. Mason Mount got among the goals last weekend and is always a good choice for your fantasy team.

Everton vs Brighton & Hove Albion
Carlo Ancelotti’s side have made an excellent start to the new campaign as they look to make it four wins from four when they welcome Brighton & Hove Albion to Goodison Park on Saturday. Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored a hat-trick last weekend and then again in the EFL Cup midweek. The striker can’t be left out of your fantasy team with the form he’s in.

Leeds United vs Manchester City
Patrick Bamford scored a late winner at Sheffield United on Sunday whilst Manchester City were humiliated 2-5 at home by Leicester City. Pep Guardiola’s side have added a new centre-back in Ruben Dias since but face a tough test to get back to winning ways in this one. Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling should be safe additions to your team though.

Newcastle United vs Burnley
Saturday’s action concludes at St James’ Park as Newcastle United welcome Burnley. Neither side have been impressive nor prolific in front of goal this season. As a result I can see this being a tight one and maybe even our first 0-0 of the new season. With that in mind, a Burnley defender like Kevin Long would be a cheap addition to your fantasy team.

Leicester City vs West Ham United
Leicester City are widely-expected to continue their winning start to the season when they face West Ham United this weekend. Jamie Vardy is fresh off a hat-trick at the Etihad Stadium that he cannot be overlooked from your team.

Southampton vs West Bromwich Albion
Danny Ings scored as Southampton recorded their first win of the season last time out. The England international can be expected to score again this weekend too as the Premier League’s leakiest defence visit St Mary’s.

Arsenal vs Sheffield United
Arsenal were well beaten at Liverpool on Monday night and will be looking to get back to winning ways when they host Sheffield United on Sunday. The Blades are yet to score a single goal this season. If you’re confident of a Gunners clean sheet, you can always add Bernd Leno or David Luiz to your fantasy team, whilst Hector Bellerin is the most likely to get an assist among the defenders.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Fulham
Nuno’s Wolverhampton Wanderers were hammered 0-4 at West Ham last Sunday as they continued their slow start to the new season. Fulham offer them a good chance to get back to winning ways this weekend. The Cottagers haven’r protected their goal very well in their return to the top flight so Daniel Podence could be worth inclusion.

Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur
Two sides who have already made an unpredictable and inconsistent start to the new season. Jose Mourinho’s side have been handed a blow with the loss of Son Heung-min to injury whilst Harry Kane hasn’t been too prolific so far this season. A difficult one to predict but expect goals.

Aston Villa vs Liverpool
Aston Villa have yet to concede a goal this season in beating the bottom two. Dean Smith’s side welcome the defending champions to Villa Park on Sunday night. Sadio Mane has a great record versus the Villans so makes our recommended team for the weekend.

Fantasy La Liga Gameweek 4 Picks

The 2020-21 Spanish La Liga season continues this weekend after a full round of fixtures midweek.

FC Barcelona started the season with a convincing 4-0 thrashing of Villarreal over the weekend and will face Celta Vigo away on Thursday, before hosting Sevilla over the weekend.

Meanwhile. defending champions Real Madrid face a potentially tricky match versus Real Valladolid on Wednesday before travelling to Levante on Sunday.

Here are this weekend’s tips for your fantasy team:

Goalkeeper: Jordi Masip (Real Valladolid)
Real Valladolid welcome Eibar to the Jose Zorrilla Stadium in the first La Liga game of the weekend. Sergio’s side play a defensive game and had the best defensive record in the bottom half last season as a result. Although they’re without a clean sheet in their first three prior to travelling to Real Madrid on Wednesday night, weekend opponents Eibar are really struggling to score so this is an excellent opportunity to Jordi Masip to register a shutout.

Fantasy Premier League Gameweek 4 Picks

Leicester City, Liverpool and Everton are the last remaining teams with a 100% winning record as we head into the fourth round of Premier League fixtures, whilst Fulham, Sheffield United and Burnley all remain pointless.

In some of the most-anticipated games of the weekend, Leeds United host Manchester City on Saturday and Jose Mourinho returns to Old Trafford as his Tottenham Hotspur face Manchester United.

Here are our recommended picks for your fantasy team this weekend:

Goalkeeper: Alisson (Liverpool)
Clean sheets have been at a premium to start the 2020-21 Premier League season and Liverpool have kept just one in their first three. However, a trip to Aston Villa on Sunday should be a good opportunity for Alisson to double that tally.

Napoli make statement in Serie A title race

Napoli have made an excellent start to the 2020-21 Serie A campaign, with victories against Parma and Genoa.

Gino Gattuso’s side hammered Genoa 6-0 at the Stadio San Paolo on Sunday with five different goalscorers. This fixture last season ended 0-0. This weekend’s game itself was delayed for three hours after it had been revealed opposition goalkeeper Mattia Perin had tested positive for Covid.

In this season’s opener, Napoli were 2-0 winners away to Parma. Although the opponents are much changed from last season and potentially in for a relegation battle this time around, Parma did the double over Gattuso’s side last campaign.

Napoli have therefore taken six points from fixtures they only took one from last campaign, when they finished seventh, having previously finished in the top three for four consecutive seasons.

Gli Azzurri have already had six different goalscorers in two games – Dries Mertens, Hirving Lozano, Piotr Zielinski, Eljif Elmas, Lorenzo Insigne and Matteo Politano.

They could do with all the goalscorers they can get this weekend as Napoli travel to Turin to take on the defending champions, Juventus. The Old Lady have started the season with four points from their two games – drawing 2-2 away to AS Roma this past weekend.

Juventus have taken a big gamble with the appointment of rookie head coach Andrea Pirlo. Although they have the strongest squad in the league and have won the Scudetto for the past nine consecutive seasons, the competition is getting closer.

AC Milan and Internazionale continue to strengthen their squads with a number of signings this summer, although Napoli have not been as active so far, with less than a week of the window to go.

Victor Osimhen is the only new arrival in Naples so far, and has made an impressive start to life in Serie A. However, both Jose Callejon and Allan have departed.

Keeping hold of Kalidou Koulibaly may be the best business Napoli could do this summer, with interest from Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City and Manchester United.

The rest of the first team remains strong, especially with Lozano starting to settle in now. Piotr Zielinski is one of the stars in Italy and , Arkadiusz Miluk, Lorenzo Insigne and Dries Mertens are reliable for goals in attack.

However, Gattuso himself doesn’t have the best of records as a head coach. He lasted just eight games in charge of Palermo, and his season-and-a-half in charge of AC Milan saw the Italian giants finish 6th and 5th before he was dismissed.

This weekend’s trip to Juventus will give us a better idea where both Napoli and the reigning champions are. Can Gattuso get an impressive result at the Allianz Stadium, even maintain their 100% winning start, and had Juventus a big title blow in the process?

Rivals Inter have already made their statement of intent this season, with the arrivals of Alexis Sanchez, Achraf Hakimi, Nicolo Barella and Arturo Vidal, among others. Meanwhile, AC Milan have acquired Sandro Tonali, Simon Kjaer, Ante Rebic and Brahim Diaz.

Is the Scudetto realistic for Inter this season?

Internazionale have spent big again this summer, so far bringing in the likes of Achraf Hakimi (€40m), Nicolo Barella (€25m), Stefano Sensi (€20m) and Arturo Vidal as they look to challenge Juventus for the Serie A title.

Antonio Conte’s side made an exciting start to the 2020-21 campaign on Saturday with a dramatic 4-3 victory at home to Fiorentina, with goals in the 87th and 89th minutes, from Romelu Lukaku and Danilo D’Ambrosio respectively.

Their participation in the Europa League final last month saw them given an additional week’s rest so they are a game behind the majority of the league, though Atalanta and Lazio were also given an extra week to prepare, as well as each of their scheduled opponents.

Three points for I Nerazzurri will have come to much relief given that Fiorentina already had a competitive game under their belt – a 1-0 win over Torino the prior weekend.

In a further boost to Inter’s hopes of winning the Scudetto for the first time since 2010, reigning champions Juventus were held to a 2-2 draw away to AS Roma on Sunday. Andrea Pirlo’s side were reduced to 10 men early in the second half.

Given a rookie manage in charge, many are expecting the 2020-21 Serie A title race to be open this campaign, the first time in several years. Napoli and AC Milan have both made impressive starts themselves, taking six points from six.

Inter’s hopes of sustaining a title challenge this season has all the ingredients they need, especially if they keep hold of star striker Lautaro Martinez, amid strong interest from Barcelona.

The Argentine has formed a great partnership with Romelu Lukaku up front, with the pair scoring 37 league goals between them last campaign.

Behind them, Conte has a wealth of talent to pick from. He went with Ashley Young, Nicolo Barella, Marcelo Brozovic, Ivan Perisic and Christian Eriksen in his 3-5-2 formation for his season opener, with Achraf Hakimi, Alexis Sanchez, Stefano Sensi, Arturo Vidal and Radja Nainggolan all coming off the bench.

Behind them is a talented defence of Stefan de Vrij, Milan Skriniar and Alessandro Bastoni, backed up by the reliable Samir handanovic.

The manager himself knows all about success. Antonio Conte started Juventus’ current run of titles during his first season in charge back in 2011-12, winning all three during his time in Turin before taking over the Italian national team. Conte won the English Premier League title in his first attempt at Chelsea too.

Whilst Juventus have dominated the league for the past nine seasons they have taken a huge risk with the appointment of inexperienced manager Pirlo, regardless of how good he was as a player himself.

The Old Lady’s main ambition is also to win the Champions League, which could have a negative impact on their domestic campaign, particularly with how competitive it is getting at the top now.

If ever there was a season for Inter Milan fans to head into confidently, it has to be this one. With the manager and players at their disposal they have the makings of being 2020-21 Serie A champions.

Premier League Best 11 Players of the Weekend: Matchday 2

Heung-min Son scored four as Tottenham Hotspur thrashed Southampton 5-2 and Dominic Calvert-Lewin grabbed a hat-trick as Everton beat 10 man West Bromwich Albion by the same score.

Clean sheets were hard to come by in the Premier League last weekend, with only Brighton & Hove Albion, Chelsea and Aston Villa keeping one.

Here’s a look at the players who made a real difference in the fantasy football last weekend:

Goalkeeper: Emi Martinez (Aston Villa) – 7pts
Aston Villa’s new signing introduced himself to the fans by saving a penalty and keeping a clean sheet in a 1-0 win over Sheffield United on his debut. Emi Martinez was one of only three goalkeepers to keep a clean sheet on matchday 2.

EPL Predictions Gameweek 3

Brighton & Hove Albion host Manchester United on Saturday lunchtime in the first Premier League game of the weekend before the action concludes on Monday night with the most-anticipated game of the week: Liverpool versus Arsenal at Anfield.

In between that, Manchester City welcome Leicester City to the Etihad Stadium and Crystal Palace host Everton in a match between two teams with six points from six.

Here’s a look ahead to each of the weekend’s games:

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Manchester United
Manchester United started the 2020-21 Premier League season with a 1-3 loss at home to Crystal Palace, whilst Brighton were comfortable 3-0 winners away to Newcastle United. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side did the double over the Seagulls last season, including a 3-0 win here in June, so perhaps they can pick up their first points of the campaign on Saturday. Bruno Fernandes scored two here just three months ago and is always difficult to leave out of your fantasy team.
