Top Football Defenders – Premier League – Week 34

Leighton Baines

Only six games will take place in Premier League this weekend, as four of the teams will be involved in FA Cup semi-finals.

This limited fixture list has made our job a bit harder as four out of top six clubs won’t play this week. The top end of our Premier League defenders list comprises of defenders from Chelsea and Tottenham, and hence we have selected some new names in our list.

In key fixtures this week, Manchester United will travel to Burnley, Everton will travel to West Ham, and Liverpool will host their bogey-side Crystal Palace.

Let’s take a look at top five Premier League defenders for game week 34:

1. Leighton Baines – Everton

The Everton veteran sits on the top spot in our list this week. Everton have been in superb form of late, and we are backing Baines to pick up some points at West Ham. The full-back is available for 8.5 in the market and has a decent total of 49 points. He has been a part of ten clean sheets in 27 appearances this season. He is also a potential threat going forward for the Toffees and has contributed with two goals and three assists.

P/P Ratio: 6

2. Ashley Williams – Everton

The Wales centre-back is just behind his clubmate at 45 points. However, he is much cheaper in the market at 5.5m. He has been ever-present in Ronald Koeman’s starting eleven this season and has made 30 starts. He has managed to keep eleven clean sheets and has also contributed with one goal and three assists.

P/P Ratio: 8.5

3. Nathaniel Clyne – Liverpool

We are keeping to Merseyside for the next name on our list. The Reds have not won any plaudits on the defensive front this season, but Clyne has been their most consistent defender. The full-back is available for 7m on the market and has 29 points to show for his efforts. He has kept eight clean sheets in 32 appearances and has also provided two assists.

P/P Ratio: 4.9

4. Eric Bailly – Manchester United

The United centre-back was impressive in the 2-0 win over Chelsea last weekend, and his lower value makes him an attractive proposition. He is available at just 2m and has 36 points. He has made only 19 appearances this season and has kept nine clean sheets.

P/P Ratio: 20.5

5. Michael Keane – Burnley

Burnley are always capable of pulling a surprise at home, and that is why we have named Keane next on our list. The Clarets will be in a with a shout against an inconsistent United side on Sunday, and we are backing Keane to come good against his former side. He is the cheapest player on our list at 1.5m and has picked up 28 points. He has kept nine clean sheets, scored two goals and provided one assist this season.

P/P Ratio: 18
