Serie A Player Status Updates – Round 37

Here are the updates on the health of few players.

Juventus: Juan Cuadrado is suspended, while Stefano Sturaro and Mattia De Sciglio were in the squad list for the Coppa Italia final, so they have shaken off a foot and an Achilles injury. Giorgio Chiellini and Benedikt Howedes should remain out due to thigh injuries, but they have been called up. 

Napoli: Faouzi Ghoulam made a surprise return to the squad list last week after a lengthy recover for a pair of serious knee injuries. Vlad Chiriches and Adam Ounas have been ruled out late.  Continue reading →

Serie A Club of the Week – Round 32: Juventus

An easy choice for club of the week in the last Serie A round, as Juventus smoked Sampdoria and got closer to Scudetto, widening their lead over Napoli. The game, however, was tighter than what the commanding final score indicates, especially in the first half.

Massimiliano Allegri rotated the squad a lot as usual, giving the nod from the jump to Benedikt Howedes, Daniele Rugani, Kwadwo Asamoah and Juan Cuadrado from the start and keeping Gonzalo Higuain and Douglas Costa on the bench. Continue reading →

Serie A Team of the Week – Round 32

There were not very many goals in the last Serie A round: here are the players that made it to the Team of the week.

Gianluigi Donnarumma: there were several clean sheets in the weekend and some excellent goalkeeping, but no save was more impressive than Gigio’s one on a wide open Arek Milik in the six-foot box in the final minutes of Milan-Napoli.

Benedikt Howedes: the German world champion returned after a lengthy absence due to injury and buried a header in his second start of the season. He was the only player to either score on assist in his role, so he was the top defender with eight points.
