Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone is bracing himself for some big name exits this summer, as his experienced core nears the end of their La Liga careers.

The Argentinian is well aware of the ageing of his squad, however there appears to be little he can do to convince his stalwarts to agree to one last battle.

Defensive pair Diego Godin and Filipe Luis, who have been at the bedrock of Simeone’s side for the best part of a decade, but will leave when their contracts expire this summer.

Let us now take a look at which players performed the best for their clubs in the second round of action in this season’s La Liga.  We will be playing a 4-3-3 this week,

Tomás Vaclik was one of only several goalkeepers in La Liga to keep a clean sheet this weekend, but at just 4m was the cheapest (tied with Diego Lopez of Espanyol). Sevilla drew 0-0 at home against Villarreal – good result.

Our series of top La Liga performers across the 2017/18 campaign sees us shine a light on the runner-up in the highest point-scoring defender tally, Atletico Madrid’s Diego Godin, whose battling performances saw him secure 85 points in what proved to be a productive season.
