Juventus: Leonardo Bonucci has recovered from his ankle sprain, Daniele Rugani from hamstring soreness and even Mario Mandzukic was able to practice fully late in the week after dealing with a patellar tendon problem for a while. Moise Kean has shaken off the flu. Giorgio Chiellini has picked up yet another calf ailment, but he is available. Miralem Pjanic is fine after twisting his ankle last week.

Napoli: Dries Mertens and Lorenzo Insigne have good chances to return after skipping one with muscle fatigue. Nikola Maksimovic and Amadou Diawara are close to healing from their foot infractions. David Ospina is still in Colombia for personal reasons, while Adam Ounas remains questionable after missing one. Continue reading →

Juventus: Joao Cancelo has a torn meniscus and will return after the break. Juan Cuadrado hyperextended his knee against Young Boys and he will not play in the weekend, while Medhi Benatia (knee soreness) has recovered. Rodrigo Bentancur is suspended, Sami Khedira will not come back from his ankle injury. Andrea Barzagli is out with a quad strain.

Napoli: Mario Rui subbed off against Liverpool due to a muscular injury that has yet to be evaluated, while Simone Verdi should make the squad list after being on the mend for a good chunk due to a pair of injury, the latest being an ankle sprain. Continue reading →

Serie A Injury Report – Round 13

Juventus: Federico Bernardeschi and Sami Khedira will not play this week because of an adductor issue and an ankle sprain. Miralem Pjanic should be available after a little muscular ailment with Bosnia. Emre Can is recovering from thyroid surgery. The two German players could return within a couple of weeks, the Italian winger sooner.

Napoli: Simone Verdi worked his way back from a thigh problem, but rolled his ankle in practice and could miss some time. Amin Younes has shaken off the Achilles injury, but he had the same problem of his teammate, even though his one is considered milder. Alex Meret is dealing with a sore shoulder on top of going through a bumpy rehab from a forearm fracture. Dries Mertens got a bruise in practice. Continue reading →

Juventus: Sami Khedira (hamstring) and Mario Mandzukic (ankle) played in Champions League, while Douglas Costa was ruled out for another thigh problem, same for Moise Kean. They are unlikely to be available for the weekend. Federico Bernardeschi is questionable for the muscular ailment that has been bugging him for a while.

Inter: Radja Nainggolan started against Barcelona, but he is still less than 100 percent because of the recent ankle sprain so he could be rested.

Napoli: Dries Mertens subbed off versus PSG because of a bruised shoulder, but he avoided further complications and should be good to go for the weekend. Continue reading →

Serie A Game of the Round – Roma vs Chievo

There were not many intense games this week and the most anticipated one, Napoli-Fiorentina, was decided by a single goal. All things considered, Roma-Chievo had the most drama.

Eusebio Di Francesco returned to his basics and arrayed a 4-3-3 with Lorenzo Pellegrini, Steven Nzonzi and Bryan Cristante in the midfield, as Javier Pastore was sidelined by an injury, picked Juan Jesus over Federico Fazio in the back-line and Stephan El Shaarawy as left winger. Roberto D’Anna trotted out a pretty defensive lineup, with two centre-backs like Nenad Tomovic and Federico Barba manning the flanks, and Nicola Rigoni initially starting over the returning Perparim Hetemaj. Serie A Player Status and Injury Updates – Round 4

The international break has been pretty rough this time around.

Juventus: Miralem Pjanic was stomped on with Bosnia, but he is fine. Andrea Barzagli had a calf problem in practice.

Napoli: Piotr Zielinski (ankle) and Dries Mertens (shoulder) suffered small injuries, but they are fine and could both start. Vlad Chiriches tore his ACL with Romania and will be out for five-to-six month. Faouzi Ghoulam was cleared to practice after a long rehab following a kneecap fracture and might be able to play in a month. Serie A Match of the Round: Chievo v Juventus

A couple of games in the first round were intense and high scoring: Parma-Udinese deserves an honourable mention, especially because the Friulani did not give up after the two-nothing goal, but Chievo-Juventus was undoubtedly the most compelling match. On Cristiano Ronaldo’s debut in Serie A, two other players shined brightest: Emanuele Giaccherini and Federico Bernardeschi.

As for the line-ups, Massimiliano Allegri opted for a very offensive 4-4-2 with Ronaldo and Paulo Dybala upfront, Juan Cuadrado and Douglas Costa on the flanks and Miralem Pjanic and Sami Khedira in the midfield. Continue reading →
