Serie A Fantasy Picks – Round Nine

Samir Handanovic: Inter had a rough go in Sassuolo, but at home they have conceded only against Juventus and Parma have quickly rolled over in a pair of away matches. The opponents might also be without their two centre-forwards.

Timothy Castagne: Udinese have had very little success on the road, collecting just one point and failing to score in three matches. So it makes sense to target one of the Atalanta defenders, even though they are pretty banged up. Should he start, Castagne would have the most upside for his role in the offense, but also Hans Hateboer, Andrea Masiello and especially Pierluigi Gollini could be fine choices. Continue reading

Serie A Fantasy Picks – Round 12

Salvatore Sirigu: the veteran goalie has had a solid season so far and the Torino’s back-line has been decent overall, even though clean sheets have been hard to come by. They will try to achieve that versus Parma, which have failed to score in the past three games, mostly because of the imperfect conditions of Gervinho and Roberto Inglese.

Ibrahima Mbaye: the fullback has found the target for two straight matches, which could help him secure a starting job even after Federico Mattiello comes back from injury. While he is highly unlikely to make it to the scoresheet three times in a row, Bologna could take advantage of the fact that Chievo have scored in just two of their six home fixtures so far. No shortage of injuries and suspensions heading into the final game.

Juventus: Sami Khedira got pulled last minute against Roma due to a muscular issue and he should not be available, same for Giorgio Chiellini and Benedikt Howedes, who have been on the shelf for a while now. Massimiliano Allegri has ruled out also Juan Cuadrado. Despite what the coach said, Federico Bernardeschi is the only one not in the squad list.

Napoli: Vlad Chiriches has undergone surgery to stabilize the shoulder that has given him a lot of problems in the past few years.

Roma: Radja Nainggolan in disqualified, while Cengiz Under got a knock on the ribs and he is very questionable. Gregoire Defrel and Rick Karsdorp are out with severe injuries, Bruno Peres is doubtful with a muscular one. Alisson has some soreness in his hip flexor and will not play.  Continue reading

There are a pair of key injured players to keep an eye on ahead of the next Serie A round.

Napoli:  Marek Hamsik was subbed off at halftime last week because of some back pain, but he played in Europa League. Arek Milik is progressing in his rehab protocol, but Faouzi Ghoulam had a big setback, even though unrelated to the previous ACL tear: he fractured his patella and had to undergo surgery; per the club statement, he will resume practicing in a month and it will be awhile before he plays in an official game.
