Most of the big stuff was done prior to deadline day in Serie A, but it still had a little bit of drama with Simone Zaza picking Torino over Sampdoria after the Blucerchiati had sealed the deal with Valencia. He will now form an interesting couple with Andrea Belotti and the Granata also brought in another familiar face: Roberto Soriano from Villarreal. Two valuable additions that might allow them to seriously challenge for a Europa League spot this year. They also obtained on loan the right back Ola Aina from Chelsea and the centre-back Koffi Djidji from Nantes to complete the defence. Continue reading →

Napoli: Mario Ruiis suspended, no other absentees other than the usual one, Faouzi Ghoulam.
Once again the conditions of some of Serie A’s top players need to be monitored entering the next round.
Juventus: Andrea Barzagli suffered an abdominal injury against Real Madrid and he could miss one or two weeks. Federico Bernardeschi is again not in the squad list, even though he is close.
Napoli: Raul Albiol and Jorginho are suspended and Faouzi Ghoulam is out with a fibula fracture. Lorenzo Tonelli is a little banged up, while Vlad Chiriches was called up last week after a six-week absence due to a hamstring injury.
Once again, the game with the most drama in Serie A was a battle for survival in the lowest part of the standings: Crotone-Spal was not only the highest scoring game in the last weekend, but it also had an extremely impactful result.
The Sharks approached the game hoping to redeem themselves after a tough loss against another rival, Benevento, but on the road. They had fared decently at home in the last month or so, sharing the spoils Cagliari and Atalanta and defeating Chievo. On the other hand, the Estensi were looking to resume winning after eight negative results and three straight losses, which had put Leonardo Semplici on the hot seat.
